Most people believe that '(:' was invented after ':)'. The truth is that '(:' and ':)' are the children of famous author Edgar Allan Poe. Conceived to keep vicious pack wolves at bay with their excruciating power of extreme laser vision which cause immediate drunkenness , aka 'Lasers Of Leglessness' Abbreviated to 'LOL'. '(:' and ':)' where quickly used as shorthand to say "I'm going in for the kill capn'!".
