A Fistful of Dollars is a basic unit of Underworld and outlaw currency. Its larger denominations include A Suitcase Full of Stacks of Small Unmarked Bills and A Gun Under the Table.
[edit] Origins
The Fistful of Dollars was invented to provide Mafia leaders with money that could be counted quickly and imprecisely, especially if the Feds were coming. It replaced the Sack of Coins with a Dollar Sign on the Outside, which was both heavier and more conspicuous; and the Leather Poke full of Gold Dust, which was harder to come by reliably after the decline of the Gold Standard.
The Fistful of Dollars is in fact an acceptable currency in all transactions, but it should be noted that one cannot expect to receive change.
[edit] Exchange rates
The value of the Fistful varies. In most jurisdictions, it can be exchanged for a half-ounce of weed, an autographed copy of The Picture of Dorian Gray, or a blowjob.
