The rare Middle-Austrailian Monkey Puzzle Spider is a good reason to have Arachnophobia, or more specifically, Arachnophagophobia; it eats people.

Arachnophobia is a horrible disorder which causes the mentally inane to fear spiders.

Arachnophobia is also the excuse people use when they are:

  • Trying to be girly. Girls are afraid of spiders, right?
  • Too damn lazy to kill a spider themselves.

Arachnophobia and Freud[edit]

Famous psychologist Sigmund Freud would say that the irrational fear of something as innocent as spiders is a projection of fear for something much more terrible. He would have said, if he was still alive, that the subject involved would have some kind of really horrible fear which they subconsciously don't want to have to deal with (his favourite suggestion was that as a child the subject had walked in on their parents having intimate sexual relations) and so transfer their angst to something much easier to deal with i.e. humble spiders. Few other psychologists like Freud much anymore as he accused all the male ones of fancying their mothers.

Much More Worthwhile Fears To Waste Your Time With[edit]

  • Hippopotomonstrosesquipedalliaphoia - fear of long words.
  • Triskaidekaphobia - fear of the number 13 (and with good reason!).
  • Phobophobia - fear of fear itself.
