GDP is an initialism used in economics, and stands for Gross Domestic Product.

Gross Domestic Product is a measure of the amount of really unpleasant, gross things made by a particular country during a specific time period. For example, Argentina's GDP for the fiscal period 1978-1979 was fifteen thousand metric tonnes (17.5 cubic feet in old money) of rancid fish heads. "GDP per capita" measures how much is produced per individual (about half a kilogram per person in this example).
