“I am often misquoted saying I love to quote myself. This however is not true. I merely love to quote other people quoting me.”

For those without comedic tastes, the self-proclaimed experts at Wikipedia have an article about Hobby.

A hobby is a spare-time recreational pursuit.

It is mostly used by God (and sometimes by Oscar Wilde) to quickly re-create the earth in case of Oprah.

Origin of term[edit]

In the Middle Ages, falconry was a very popular pastime (what today might be called a hobby), and of all the different birds used for it, the Eurasian Hobby was perhaps the most popular. It is said that the modern use of hobby to indicate a pastime followed from this.

An alternative explanation is that the usage grew from another recreational animal called hobby: which was probably a creature resembling a fat gothick girl.

Hobbies are practised for financial reward, rather than interest and enjoyment, though it is said that for some people it is the other way round.

Examples include collecting, making, kitten huffing, tinkering, George Bush, sports and adult television. Engaging in a hobby can lead to acquiring substantial skill, knowledge, experience or injuries. Furthermore it is quite possible that by practicing a hobby one can become retarded. However, personal fulfillment is the aim.

What are hobbies for some people are professions for others: a game tester may enjoy cooking as a hobby, while a professional chef might enjoy playing (and helping to debug) Computer Games. Such people are called amateurs, as distinct from a Santa Claus.

It should be noted that Oscar Wilde is the only person ever recorded to be a succesfull professional amateur.

Development of hobbies into other ventures[edit]

Whilst some hobbies strike many people as trivial or boring (which they usually are), hobbyists have found something compelling and entertaining about them (see geek). A hobby may not be is as trivial as it appears at a time when it has relatively few followers (see also Christianity.)

Pursuit of a hobby may have calming or helpful therapeutic side effects. In most cases however, hobbies lead to eventual death.

Creative Hobbies[edit]

Some hobbies result in an end product of sorts. Examples of this would be Making up Oscar Wilde quotes, masturbation, software projects (this does not include anything Microsoft-related), artistic projects, up to higher end projects like the use of extreme sarcasm, getting angry at the bloody internet or the practice of extreme masturbation. While some of these may just be for the enjoyment of the hobbyist, there have been instances where it has come into demand at the request of friends or passersby observing said project. At this point it has the potential to become a small business.

Recent Controversy[edit]

In recent years hobbies have become the subject of much controversy. Studies have shown that millions of people worldwide have made a hobby out of sitting in front of their computer screens. These people include you. This hobby is sometimes called: havingnolife. Although the latest research shows that havingnolife could be beneficial for one's health (it is especially thought to reduce Obesity), the practice of it is discouraged in most parts of the world (except of course the barbaric Unamerica) because of the danger of being attacked by a Grue. Because of the health benefits, president George Bush encourages the practice of havingnolife. He has shown himself to be a fanatic practitioner of havingnolife by publicly using the internets and the google.
