IPod mono
From Uncyclopedia, the content-free encyclopedia.
The iPod mono is the latest product in the iPod family, created by Apple. It was released after they found out that they could cut the production costs in half by creating a mono version of the oh-so-popular iPod, and by using a black and white screen instead of the color screen. The iPod mono could also be connected to the iPod Lo-Fi docking station and speaker to further exploit the mono experience. The iPod mono is easily distinguished from the other iPods by having only one earplug, and the black and white screen.
[edit] Fileformat
iPod mono is the first mp3 player from Apple that doesn't support the AAC file format, they decided to drop it for this iPod, because they realised that they couldn't fit any AAC files on the built in flash-drive. The media player only supports mono mp3s at 96 kbit/sec and 22 kHz using 8 bit pr channel. This makes the files so small that one could fit 1337 mp3 files on the built in 640K flash-drive.
[edit] Connectivity
To further reduce the costs of the iPod mono, Apple decided to replace the USB/FireWire interface with a software modem that uses the earbud as a microphone. When the user loads music onto the player, the iTunes software on the computer encodes the data in sped-up Morse code and plays it through the computer's speaker. The player receives the transmission through the earbud and decodes it. It only takes an hour to fill the iPod mono this way, with a speed of 640Kb/hour.
[edit] iTunes usage
With the purchase of iPod mono you will get a special activation code for the iTunes music store that would make it possible buy music in the 96 kbit/sec mp3 fileformat used for this iPod. These files are in such a low quality that they are DRM free, and are sold for only 10 Pieces of Eight each (about $1). This makes it easier to buy albums for those only on dial-up connections, because the files are so small.
[edit] Quotes
This new iPod is heavily supported by iBill Gates, and he said the following quotes on the release of the iPod mono:
“640Kb ought to be enough for anybody, and no one will ever need more than 640Kb of flash storage for a personal iPod.”
~ Bill Gates on the iPod mono
[edit] iPod Lo-Fi
The iPod Lo-Fi is the ultimate companion for the iPod mono media player, and is an boombox like device designed by Apple. It is specially made for the iPod mono mp3 player. This boombox is mono, like the iPod mono. If you would to connect a regular stereo iPod to this boombox (without an adapter), it would make the speaker element implode. But it can be made to fit every iPod from iPod yotta all the way down to iPod yocto, with the usage of a special stereo-mono adapter. You could also send in your regular iPod to Apple to have it converted to a iPod mono, thus you could use this device with the player without the need of an adapter. It only costs 1024 Pieces of Eight (about $128), and is not as expensive as regular speakers, but more expensive than a piece of paper.
“This is so cool that I could pee in Bill Gates's pants.”
~ Oscar Wilde on the iPod Lo-Fi
