Interstate 33 was a highway in Kansas built by the freemasons, known as the Freemason Freeway (or just "Mason Way" for short). They built the road to connect the center of the country with their lodge in
North Dakota, and to shun the Kansas Turnpike because it was a toll road.
However, only the portion in Kansas was built. Construction of the rest of the road was halted when anti-mason sentiment rose, and people became afraid that the I-33 project would legitimize freemasonry and actually allow masons to win elections. The government stepped in and turned I-33 into an auxiliary route of I-35 , now known as Interstate 135.
So, in case you were wondering why I-35 has a ridiculously long auxiliary route in Kansas, that is why.
