The LOLcat Traslator Project[1] is the attempt of a group of linguistically inclined retards to create a complete and comprehensive online translator for English into LOLcat. Suprisingly enough, the translator they produced is capable of translating not only specific words and phrases but also unknown text. There has been a failed attempt by the same group to use the term LOLcat and the associated funny cat photos as a pretext to support their claim that the reason for them speaking and writting in broken English is that they try to immitate how a cat would speak if she could. The result of this failed attempt was that the term LOLcat has now taken the status of a widely used euphemism referring to the level of language retardness produced by the fervent attempts of those individuals to communicate.

In further attempts to diffuse the ridiculous image that the public has regarding this group of individuals, the LOLcat Traslator Project website[2] creators state that their aim and novelty of the translator is its ability to virtually render any English word or phrase intelligible even from themselves.

[edit] The Website

On the main web page[3] visitors can type in some text in English and get back a retarded version of it (aka lolcat speak) and have a laugh. Alternatively, by typing in the web address of a website they can see and navigate the given website with its text converted into lolcat speak, so that they have better changes of understanding the content or have an even better laugh, depending on who reads the translation.

The slangaholic website [4] also offers various plug-ins which you can use to enable your instant messenger (chat client) to automatically convert messages into lolcat, so that you can convince your mates that you recently had a failed brain surgery.

[edit] The Translation Engine

The text retardation engine is named LOLcatizer and is the core of the various on-line and stand-alone translators/utilities that are available from the website. For developing the required translation rules the developers processed hundreds of lines of text which had been translated into cat speak by non linguistically challenged humans who were familiar with the language. Note that the developers of the translation engine and website did not need to understand what the phrases were all about which means that essentially the questionable Chinese room thought experiment was successfully put at work by them. This constitutes another first for this group of people who cannot even spell hai porperly.

To advance the translator’s abilities to produce text that is intelligible by the developers themselves another module was developed and added (by third party developers) which extracts the context (meaning) of the text and makes changes or additions which reflect what a cat would be likely to think or comment about the subject matter. The produced text seems therefore "more naturally" retarded. The spokenperson of the developers' group refused to commend on rumours that they think as much as a cat can think.

[edit] The LOLcat Forum and Profiles

Recently, in an attempt to unite all inarticulate residents of the planet, under the pretext of interest in the LOLcat meme and their supposed love for animals, the creators of the LOLcat Translator Project[5] added on the website social networking and discussion-forum facilities. The graphical user interface was especially designed so that it is easy enough for the targeted group to find its way around and attempt to communicate with like-"minded" individuals.

Other related projects include the LOLCat Bible Translation Project which is an attempt to translate the whole bible into LOLcat speak, so that we can convert even cats into Christianity since all humans that were not already convinced to embrace some form of it have been eliminated. At the same time it is rumoured that priests and theologians are eager for increasing their MySpace and Facebook friend counts due to increased pressure by the vatican.
