An ever-menacing creature, the Minotaur Balloon strikes an imposing figure. Hailing from the loudest mountain of Saturn, the Minotaur Balloon is a mysterious and interesting case. Studying the enigmatic Minotaur Balloon can prove to be quite a challenge, as the animals have proven quite hostile towards scientists of any kind. Minotaur Balloons have killed at least 700 scientists to date. If humans and Minotaur Balloons will ever live in harmony is a difficult question to solve, but finding out more about the creatures and understanding as much as possible about them will be a step toward peace. They're named after the minotaur, half chicken, half bull.

[edit] Discovery

Scientist and part-time explorer Jimothy Donahue discovered a Minotaur Balloon tribe in 2542 during the first human exploration of Saturn. Minotaur Balloons were one of many of his discoveries, another of which was the discovery of human life on Saturn. He was ecstatic upon this discovery, but slightly less amused when the Minotaur Balloons discovered him. Luckily, Donahue’s assistant, a small, mustachioed man named Stephen, escaped with Donahue’s photographs and journal as Minotaur Balloons ripped Donahue to shreds. Donahue’s initial discoveries are to this day commonly regarded as some of the most important discoveries on Minotaur Balloons. From Donahue’s journal:

“These newly discovered creatures, or “Minotaur Balloons,” as Stephen and I have come to call them, are quite fascinating indeed. They are large, colorful, and no doubt quite frightening… I’ve no doubt how they move about the way they do, they seem to hover… The creatures feed mostly on the townsfolk, sweeping down from their mountain cave dwellings and scooping up citizens in their gaping maws.”

[edit] Eye-Rays

Another crucial discovery, made by John Costeau, Jaques’ great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandson, was the Minotaur Balloons’ use of eye-rays. Eye-rays were rays shot from the creatures’ eyes at unsuspecting villagers. Below is a list of known Minotaur Balloon eye-rays:

Cannibal Rays: Rays that turn ordinary citizens into flesh-hungry maniacs. The most plausible reasoning for the Minotaur Balloon’s use of these rays is that it tenderizes the meat if it’s been chewed on a bit.

Spank Rays: Often used by parent Balloons on naughty larvae.

X-Rays: Used to see through building walls and locate possible hiding meals.

Touch Rays: Having ostensibly no arms or legs, the Minotaur Balloon must use touch rays in order to feel texture.

[edit] Sleep Habits of Minotaur Balloons

Minotaur Balloons do not sleep. They merely hover above villages when night falls, awaiting breakfast.

[edit] Minotaur Balloon Love and Mating

Minotaur Balloons love nothing; they only mate out of necessity. Often times there will be a fight after the birth of a young Balloon when parents will duke it out against each other. The loser is eaten at a family feast. In short, Minotaur Balloons are terrible creatures that attack newcomers and love nothing. Nothing, that is, except for flesh and saltwater taffy. It should be noted that Minotaur Balloons hate the combination of flesh and saltwater taffy, it sticks to the roofs of their mouths.

[edit] Conclusion

One day, maybe there is hope that the denizens of Saturn will no longer have to fear the daily approach of the Minotaur Balloons. Until that day, I recommend that all Saturn-dwellers lock up tight.
