Nerves Of Steel

When one is said to have 'Nerves of Steel' they are said to be very brave. However, this was not how it originated. This amazing expression was originally used by the great Trevor McDonald in a broadcast on Channel 4. He said this:

“This wireless handset has, and had, nerves of steel. Goodnight”

~ Trevor McDonald on Nerves Of Steel

After an overwhelming phone-in, nobody could work out what this meant, so someone just applied it to bravery. Bit boring really...
