New Scientist Magazine was first published in 1973 by a group of radical young researchers in defiance of their elders at the venerable Old Scientist Magazine.

The main differences between the two publications is the use of crayons in the younger journal, and a tendency for the majority of the articles to be about whether Spiderman could beat Batman.
