Robbie Savage (born October 18, 1974) is a midfield playing footballer from Welsh who currently plays for Blackburn Rovers. Known mostly for his football talents, he is also known in the field of pantomime. He is world famous for being the most hated person in Britain due to his playing tactics which helped him into the world of pantomime along with several other top flight Premiership stars such as fellow Welsh Craig Bellamy and Newcastle United's Steven Taylor.

Early Years

Born to Welsh Royal Family on October 18 1974 Prince Robert was given up for adoption so therefore was ineligable to one day rule Welsh and Britain. From the age of 6 months he lived on a lowly farm in Wrexham. Legally changing his name to Robbie at the age of 12, Savage would grow up with a lifetime of resentment towards the Royal Family and was in and out of jail throughout his teens. He soon grew out of this rebellious, anarchic attitude at the age of 17 when he ran away from home to Manchester and was spotted playing football by local MP Alex Ferguson. Impressed with what he saw Alex referred him to Manchester United FC where manager Roy Keane decided he'd give the young Savage a shot at the big time. Unfortunately Savage was dropped and offloaded to Crewe Alexandre after only a year. Starting off as a striker, Robbie didn't hit the big time until 2002 when he joined newly promoted Birmingham FC to the Premiership.

Premiership

Savage quickly picked up the reputation for being a reckless midfielder with little regard for human safety, showing that he had picked up from his mentering under Roy Keane. Savage was given a hefty 18 yellow cards and 4 reds in his two seasons at Birmingham injuring Jonathan Woodgate and Ole Gunnar Solksjaer in the process causing them to miss much of the next few seasons, as well as effectively ending the career of Manchester City star Alfe-Inge Haaland. Suddenly Savage found himself where he had spent much of his childhood - in resentment of hatred from opposing players and fans, just like the Royals did in his youth. Crowds of opposing fans would boo and jeer him every time he touched the ball. Savage however realised he liked his new found fame as the Welsh rebel and revelled in his jeers. He transformed from the man everyone hated to the man they loved to hate, and became increasingly more pantomime/professional wrestling in his actions on the field. This ultimately led to celebrity referee Graeme Poll punching Savage in the face in a game against Geordie United, for which Savage has never forgiven.

Blackburn Rovers

Despite the hatred shown towards Savage, people realised he was actually a very good player. Not long after Savage became the most expensive Welsh player in history when he signed for Blackburn Rovers for £15 million. By this time Savage had cooled his temper a bit and concentrated on football. Winning the PFA Player of the Year award in 2005, Savage shocked the nation again by dragging the name of the Welsh Royal Family down when being interviewed by Match of the Day, stating that he would have been the best King to ever run the land of Welsh. That year he guided Blackburn the Champions League Final where reigning champions FBK Kaunas of Lithuania defeated them 2-1, with Savage being sent off in the process. Irate Blackburn fans lynched a burnt figure of Savage outside Ewood Park as Savages reputation grew outside of football and even outside the United Kingdom. Savage and his wife Posh Spice had to be very cautious wherever they went for the next 6 months before Savage regained the trust of the Blackburn fans by scoring a fabulous volley from the half way line in a match against Tottenham Hotspur. Even so, Savage to this day is a hated man in the majority of England.

Welsh

Robbie Savage also has a history of controversy surrounding his international career. Whilst playing a game against the Irish in 2004 Savage was shown a red card for two tackles which to this day he stresses they were 2 of the only fouls he has commited where there was no intent. Irate over the decision to send him off, Savage succesfully appealed to the European Court of Human Rights over his treatment. In a court case which lasted close to 8 months, Savage eventually succeeded in the appeal and Savage was awarded £500,000 and match referee Marcus Merk suspended for 3 months.

Savage retired from international football in September 2005 after a heated row with Welsh manager John Toshack who Savage is generally regaded to have assaulted although Toshack still insists he walked in to a door.

In Summer 2006 Savage was accused of sexually assaulting a couple of females along with Welsh tearaway Craig Bellamy in a hotel room. Charges were dismissed due to insufficient evidence.

Pantomime

Robbie entered the world of pantomime as many said he would make the perfect pantomime villain. Cast as villains such as Captain Hook and the Sheriff of Nottingham, Robbie took to the scene by storm and was the most requested pantomime actor of Summer 2004. He also took part in a little known performance of Jack and the Beanstalk featuring Peter Crouch as the giant where Savage actually played the good character but this did not catch on as he felt he was acting out of character. Savage soon stuck solely to football as he felt it was effecting his performances on field.
