The Fall
From Uncyclopedia, the content-free encyclopedia.
The Fall is the world's most successful legal rock band, formed in Prestwick, Lancascestershire in 1975 by E-Mark Smith, whose powers of precognition meant he could change his name to cash in on the internet boom that would happen 20 years after the band formed.
[edit] Career Summary
The original line-up, which debuted on Halloween in Manchester, UK, featured Smith on vocals, Monty Banner on lead guitar, Paul "Pour" Coffee on bass, Mark Messiah (born Mark Messier) on keyboards, and Glen Livet on harmonica, Drums and turntables. After several unsuccesful attempts at killing each other they decided to form a band, the first three years of which saw a fluctuating line-up that at one point featured future Conservative MP David Cameron playing the bongos for their first session on John Peels radio show.
The band's first album Live at The Which? Trials introduced their concept based skiffle-thrash on the nation, their first concept album being about consumer magazines and how their opinions may be swayed by the corporate Pound. They quickly followed this up with the album In Drag, about transvestisism in Manchester, and thus began a series of groundbreaking albums that if not exactly setting the charts on fire, certainly were responsible for the destruction of several warehouses in Manchester.
After another few albums of typical high quality, and with the arrival and departure of guitarist Mark O'Reallyreallyreally to BBC Radio 1's afternoon program "Hi, I'm Washed Up", Smith surprised everyone by marrying an American guitarist, Elsie Yoko Smith, in Brixton in the early eighties. This coincided with their 1983 album Prevented by Bad Language, a concept album about film censors. Several more albums followed until Elsie and Smith divorced on the grounds of dressing like a hamburger for their 1988 album Orange? With these Carpets? Curious, that divivded opnion amongst critics. Not to be put off by this, the group recorded another few albums at the start of the 1990's that managed to hit the UK charts. This reached a peak with the Emo-baiting album, "My Chemical Romace are Certainly Revolting", whose lengthy rants about a sub-genre of cookery divided critics. Their follow-up album Sherry & Cowsick united opinions, and not in a positive way, and the band were soon to experience dwindling fortunes in their sales in countries where they had traditionally done well, such as New Zealand and Leichtenstein.
Towards the end of the 1990's a series of line-up changes affected the bands output, although the return of Elsie and original drummer Michael "Karl" Burke, now a TV News Presenter, reinvigorated the group on there internet hacker tribute "The L33t User Syndrome" it was to be short-lived. The band received their marching orders, during a badly thought out tour to promote 1997's chill-out album Meditate in various brothels in the United States, in the summer of 1998. It was about this time that a large amount of Live albums were released, it is predicted that by 2010 the Live recorded output of The Fall will take up half the shelves of every record shop, Smith once responded to suggestions that the band were releasing the same Live album, only using different song titles, by throwing the journalist who suggested this into a lake.
After spending the rest os 1998 ski-ing in the Highlands of Scotland, Smith and then current girlfriend Julie Bagel recruited another group just in time for next years tribute to the band Cat Power - The Chan Marshall Suite. After another album The Unpronouncabletitle Smith decided to sack the band again, before recording his tribute to Carol Vorderman R U R Missing Consonant Richard?.
Appearing on the long-running BBC music show Too Late... With Jools Holland E-Mark Smith stipulated that his band would only play on the condition that Jools Holland play boogie-woogie piano as loudly as possible over every single song the band played. Jools agreed with relish.
The band continue today, with yet another change in line-up and a new album, Revenue Protection post Tango-lite - a concept album about the Inland Revenue and the Drinks Industry - has recently been released, featuring Mr Smiths new husband Lenny Henry on the spoons and egg whisk.
Smith has also recorded two spoken word albums - The Nearly Postman, and The Pink Panther's Panza - about his unsuccesful career in a Post Office and Cartoons in Nazi Germany.
There are also rumours flying around Gunchester that Mark E Smith is actually Shaun Ryders dad.
