The "move" function and double redirects
Okay, you redirected Eric Theodore Cartman to Lord High Chancellor of the Excheuary Eric Theodore Cartman (that's a mouthful!). Judging by the fact that the article there was exactly the same as the former article, albeit without the history, I think the function you wanted to use in that case was the "move" function. Just click the little tab at the top marked "move," type in the title of the page you want to move it to, and boom! The page, along with all of its history, is at the new title.
However, be careful when moving pages thusly, because you may create a double redirect. We admins tend not to like double redirects. They make us angry, and when we're angry, we tend to ban first and ask questions later. If you want to move a page, check the "What links here" link on the left and see if there are any redirects to the old page, then redirect them to the new page.
If I confused you, you can either let me know here or on my talk page. I hope you don't take the ban too personally, but banning for double redirects is fairly common practice around here. Thanks!
